I highly recommend the “restaurant Elsenstein “, which offers a variety of delicious items, from cakes and tarts to traditional German cuisine. The prices vary from cheap to acceptable.
Berlin – 4 must see places along the river Spree.
Known as the „ Blue Vain“, the river Spree flows 19 miles through Berlin. In the east it crosses Köpenick, in the west Spandau. This is a tribute to one of the most beautiful rivers in Germany.
Treptow
We start in East Berlin in Treptow. It is worthwhile taking a walk through the Treptower Park. During
the day, children, young people and the young at heart are playing games or are jogging. At night
Berliners and tourists gather here to barbeque and to enjoy the beautiful evening next to the river.
The love island and the Isle of youth in the eastern area of the Park are especially popular for this
purpose.
At the western end however, you can admire the Treptowers of the Allianz Insurance and the sculpture
“Molecule Man” which are beautifully lit at night.
Berlin – center
In the city center the Spree flows around many treasures. Visit the Schloss Bellevue, the residence
of the German president. It is brightly lit and surrounded by a beautiful park, which also invites you
to take a stroll in the evening. Walk along the Spree by the Kanzlerpark and Spreebogenpark up to the
German Bundestag. Amid the urban hustle and bustle, you can escape the city at the Capital
Beach without getting rid of her completely. In cosy lounge chairs, the guests enjoy the sun on
their faces while they sip cocktails and watch the passing ships.
Capital Beach
Ludwig-Erhard-Ufer, 10557 Berlin, Deutschland
Want to join the locals in a conversation? I really recommend the “Capital Beach
Bar“. You will find the bar with cocktails and music and a friendly atmosphere,
directly next to the Spree.
Charlottenburg
You can explore the Spree best during a walk along the river in Charlottenburg. During the day
cyclists, joggers and families with children share this place. During the evening it belongs to
amorous couples and groups of young people. The Charlottenburg Palace and the adjacent Schlossgarten
are clearly visible from the shore. The beer garden directly on the river Spree offers a refreshing
break. Cosy, tasty and
Charlottenburgs only beer garden that is directly on the river Spree. A basic menu and –
interesting especially in summer – the best ice cream from Eis Michel! Daily from 12:00 noon, on
weekends even from 10:00 am.
Spandau
In Spandau the Spree is a part of the old city and flows near the Spandau Citadel. Anyone wanting to have a good time in Spandau will find it not only in the old town, but also at the Juliusturm and the Lindeufer. Regular open air concerts are held in the old town.
I recommend the Spandower Zollhaus restaurant. Here you will find real German and traditional Berlin homemade food on the menu, in a stylish atmosphere in the oldest and most beautiful part of Spandau.
Fazit
For historic reasons you will also find many of the highlights of Berlin take place along the river Spree, but above all it is for the magical atmosphere which radiates from the water. All the districts through which the river Spree flows enjoy the opportunities the river has to offer, as well as the contact between locals and tourists. A visit to Berlin without the Spree is not a real visit to Berlin.
