The great outdoors is a big part of Clevelands tourist appeal. Local attractions, like the Cleveland Botanical Gardens and the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo will please nature and wildlife lovers. When visiting the Botanical Gardens, be sure to see the Eleanor Armstrong Smith Glasshouse. Once inside, you can explore two distinct ecosystems, a Madagascar desert and the rainforests of Costa Rica. Visitors to the zoo wont want to miss the primate collection. With over 3,000 animals, it is the largest such collection in North America. As the shallowest and warmest of the Great Lakes, Lake Erie is a wonderful place for water recreation of all kinds, and you dont have to go far. Cleveland Lakefront State Park offers visitors great swimming, a nearby fishing pier and plenty of places to walk. The adventurous can go to Wildwood Marina for fishing charters and a variety of boat rental options. South of Cleveland, but still part of the Cleveland Metroparks, is the Ohio and Erie Canal Reservation. Featuring seven miles of all-purpose trail, hikers can enjoy quiet picnic areas as well as a variety of vistas and even the opportunity to view beaver, deer and other native creatures. If you continue south for a short distance you will come to Brecksville Reservation.
