Built on the banks of the Ohio River, Cincinnati is considered by some to be the first truly American city. For visitors interested in the performing arts, Cincinnati offers the Tony Award-winning Playhouse in the Park. Featuring fine drama, rousing musicals and even hilarious comedy, the Playhouse is an exceptional venue. For big-name musical entertainment, like the Dave Mathews Band or Jimmy Buffet, head to the Riverbend Music Center. Located on the Ohio River, this outdoor amphitheater seats over 20,000 fans. Amusement park fans love coming to Cincinnati. With classic rides, live shows and the Sunlite Pool, the largest recirculation swimming pool in the world, Coney Island has been entertaining families for over 100 years. For a park with a little more punch, go 20 minutes out of town to Kings Island. Here you can scream on the thrill rides, laugh on the family rides and then cool off in the waterslide park. Fans of professional sports enjoy Cincinnati in almost any season. The Cincinnati Reds, or the âBig Red Machineâ, as local fans know them, have entertained baseball fans here since 1890. The team, over 100 years old, now plays its home games in Great American Ball Park, opened in the 2003 season. The Bengals of the National Football League came to Cincinnati in 1968 and play their home games in Paul Brown Stadium. Minor league sports are a fun and economical way to enjoy your favorite athletic event. From October through April, the Cincinnati Cyclones of the East Coast Hockey League have fans on their feet and screaming for goals. Fans of collegiate sports can choose between the University of Cincinnati Bearcats and the Xavier University Musketeers. Both universities field Division I teams that deliver fan-pleasing performances in sports ranging from football and basketball to golf.
