Located at less than 5 km from the city of Hannut, you don’t have to worry about restaurants or other opportunities to enjoy. Moxhe is a village in the middle of 3 motorways : to Brussels, Namur or Liège, which allows you to visit a lot of places at a short driving distance.
The Natural environment
Close to the big wildlife sanctuary of Burdinale, the Mill and the ajoining lands are on the autumn and spring flight path of of a large variety of migrant birds. It is common, for instance. to be able to observe several kinds of Nordic ducks coming in search the food offered them by the ambient biotope. With the collaboration of neighbouring owners, we have gradually been able to create a large protection zone in which, in narrow co-operation with the Royal Belgian League for the Protection of Birds, we try to maintain an environment advantageous for the reception of migratory birds and for the maintenance of local birds such as wagtails or various tits, kingfishers, flycatchers, or other varieties of a more aquatic type, such as various kinds of geese or waders, attracted by small marshy areas. Those areas we manage with care, to permit birds to evolve in a natural environment... in this including birds of prey which must also be preserved.
To observe birds in their natural environment requires great patience and discipline on on the part of the amateur, but the satisfaction of an unusual discovery always leaves a lasting memory and often encourages the person in new exciting experiments helped especially by a good pair of binoculars, but also by an ear more attentive to the life of our small friends who hide here and there, often unsuspected and in our indifference to the beauty of their environment.
It is with this mind that we wanted to create our modest reservation and we like to share with our guests the interest which we carry in the protection of certain natural sites favoured by more and more rare biotopes in our industrialized regions. We keep, at the disposition of our guests, a considerable amount of documentation as well as current periodicals on the subject.
