Found near the geographic center of Arkansas, Little Rock was named for a “little rock” that marked the best place to cross the Arkansas River. Little Rock is best known as the capital of Arkansas, and the state government complex is just seven miles from either Extended Stay Hotels location. In addition to hosting state government offices, Little Rock is home to several large corporations. The city is headquarters for communications giants Altell and Windstream as well as the international marketing firm Acxiom.Located just across town from the hotels is Adams Field, Little Rock National Airport and home for two major private aircraft builders. Both Hawker Beachcraft and Dassault Falcon Jet have completion facilities at Adams Field where the final touches are put on jets destined for private owners. Little Rock is home to two military facilities, the Arkansas National Guard base Camp Joseph T. Robinson and Little Rock Air Force Base. At 33,000 acres, Camp Robinson is one of the largest state-operated training sites in the U.S. It is also home to the Arkansas National Guard Museum and National Guard Professional Education Center. Little Rock is an ideal destination for a vacation-seekers. History buffs need to check out the William J. Clinton Presidential Center . The museum within the Center includes items from Clinton's time as President as well as a full-scale replica of the Clinton-era Oval Office. Other historical points of interest include the MacArthur Museum of Arkansas Military History, and the adjacent Arkansas Korean War Veterans Memorial. Family-friendly attractions abound in Little Rock. Everyone is sure to enjoy the Little Rock Zoo , which includes more than 725 animals representing over 200 species. Little Rock is also home to the Arkansas Arts Center , which features works from premier American and European artists from the Renaissance through the present.
