Lindeth Howe is a beautiful country house hotel, originally built in 1879. Beatrix Potter once owned the house, and here she wrote and illustrated several of her world-renowned children's stories, in particular, Timmy Tiptoes in 1911 and Pigling Bland in 1913. Lindeth Howe is set in 6 acres of beautiful gardens and has magnificent views over Lake Windermere. The bedrooms at Lindeth Howe are superior first class in quality: all rooms have ensuite facilities, colour TV with satellite, tea and coffee welcome trays, hair dryer and baby listening facility. The rooms are beautifully appointed, each with its own traditional style. The superior rooms are more spacious and have a trouser press, bathrobes, luxury toiletries and an enhanced welcome tray. Over 80 percent of rooms are non-smoking, including all of the superior rooms. On the ground floor are 3 attractive and spacious rooms for disabled guests, with easy, level access to the lounges, bar, restaurant and leisure areas. Then restaurant has an air of elegance and an excellent reputation. Guests can enjoy a candlelit dinner in an intimate atmosphere. The 5-course dinner menu includes vegetarian options and changes daily. It is non-smoking and the dress code in the evening is 'smart casual'. During the day, morning coffee, light lunches and afternoon tea are served in the relaxing lounges and bar. Especially for children, a high tea is served in the early evening, guests are welcome to relax in the Beatrix Potter Library, the Hill Top Lounge or enjoy the well-stocked bar. There is a well-maintained leisure area with swimming pool (8m x 4m), sauna, solarium and fitness equipment. Lindeth Howe is ideally situated for the Lake District's attractions: The World of Beatrix Potter, Wordsworth's Dove Cottage, the Lakes, etc. One of the best ways to explore the lakes is by 'Mountain Goat'. Directions to the hotel from: Motorway: From the South; at junction 36 of the M6 motorway, take the A591 towards Windermere. At the large roundabout turn left on the B5284 (signposted to Hawkshead). Follow this road for 6 miles past Windermere Golf Club on the left, and on to the junction with A5074. Keep following the B5284 across this staggered junction (left then immediate right). This is Longtail Hill and Lindeth Howe Hotel is along the first drive on the left, 150 metres down the hill. From the North; at junction 40 of the M6 motorway, take the A66 towards Keswick. At the first roundabout take the A592 via Ullswater to Windermere. Follow the A592 south through Windermere and Bowness. 3/4 mile after Bowness take the fork left along the B5284. This is Longtail Hill and Lindeth Howe Hotel is along the last drive on the right, 300 meters up the hill. Rail: Windermere station is 2.5 miles and Oxenholme station (on the main West Coast Line) is 10 miles from Lindeth Howe Hotel. Taxis are available from both stations. By Air: Manchester Airport is 90 miles, Leeds Bradford is 75 miles and Newcastle is 120 miles from Lindeth Howe Hotel. There are direct trains from Manchester Airport to Windermere and train services from Leeds City Centre and Newcastle to Oxenholme and Windermere. |
